Angels Visit

Sunday, December 11th, we read the story of angels visiting Mary and Joseph. An Angel visited Mary telling her she was going to have a baby and name him Jesus! We talked about all the different emotions Mary might have felt when she saw and heard the angel. But the angel said, “Do not be afraid”.

An angel then visited Joseph in a dream. The angel reassured Joseph and told him that Jesus is going to save people from their sins. Joseph then knew everything was going to be ok. What miracles happened to bring about the most amazing thing- the birth of Jesus!

Together, we made angel ornaments. We are all getting excited for the coming weeks and the celebration for Jesus’ birthday!

There is no Sunday School until January 8th due to the upcoming holidays. This Saturday from 9-2 will be our Christmas Pageant practice and then Sunday our children will share their hard work & play at the 11am service.

Sheep & Goats

Sunday, November 20th, we listened to the story that Jesus told his disciples about sheep and goats. He told them he wanted them to be more like sheep and not goats. We learned that sheep stick together and follow the shepherd. Goats like to go their own way and forget about other goats. They don’t follow the shepherd.

Our verse: “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27

We have been singing a song based on Psalm 23…some of your children may be able to remember it if you ask them. :)

The Lord is my shepherd, I’ll walk with Him always.
He leads by still waters, I’ll walk with Him always.
Always, always, I’ll walk with Him always.
Always, always, I’ll walk with Him always.

Sunday November 13th- Parable of the Talents

I’m catching up since I’ve been under the weather. Hope you have been hearing some of these stories and what your child has been discovering along the way.

On Sunday, Novemeber 13th, we shared the Parable of the Talents. In Jesus’ time, a talent was a coin. We talked about sharing all of our talents- our coins and the talents God has given us.

Our verse “Each of you should use whatever gift you have recieved to serve others…” 1 Peter 4:10

We played a thank you game where we thanked our friends for sharing their talents with us. It is so amazing that we all have such different talents to share. We shared how God has each given us different talents and made us all different and that we are loved so much.

Thank you for sharing your talented children with us!

The Ten Bridesmaids

Yesterday we listened to the story about the ten bridesmaids waiting for the groom. They were each holding a lamp to light the way. Five of the bridesmaids brought extra oil for their lamps and were ready for when the groom came. The other five didn’t have enough and weren’t ready when the groom came.

We talked a lot about letting our lights shine and getting ready for Jesus. We want to show others our light so they can be ready too. We felt really bad for those five bridesmaids who didn’t get to go with the groom. We shared ways that we can share God’s love and our light with others.

Can you think of different ways you can share your light and love with others?

We sang our songs by candlelight…including “This Little Light of Mine”. We also made a Lantern to help us remember to shine our lights.

Thank you for sharing your amazing children with us!

Be Humble!

Sunday we spoke about being humble. Humble is an important word and a hard word to define. So many of our kids did a great job of describing what being humble means. Some of them said it means to treat others nice and be kind to them, treat others with respect without interrupting or showing off.

Our story was about how the Rabbis knew all about the stories and sat in important places at parties and showed off their knowledge. They were not humble! Jesus said he wants us to be humble. We sang a song based on our Bible verse “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up”. James 4:10.

We decorated pumpkins and talked about “Humble Pumpkins”. We talked about how small a pumpkin seed starts out and how big pumpkins grow. We learned about all the things pumpkins are used for, from eating, to using for lanterns, to even using the outside of a pumpkin for things like mats. Our pumpkins are to help us remember that even the smallest of things can grow to be something big and helpful. And that when we are helpful we should also be humble.

The Greatest Commandment

Today, we learned that a group of people called the Pharisees had lots and lots of laws. They had over 600! One day, they asked Jesus what the greatest law was. Jesus replied

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your
soul and with all your mind. This is the greatest of all the commandments.”

He also told them about another important one: “Love your neighbor as yourself. If you obey these two laws, then you obey all of the laws.”

Together, we decorated some cookies to share with our neighbors and to show our love for everyone. We also talked about some ways we can love our neighbors…and who our neighbors are (everyone).

Paying Taxes

This past Sunday we talked about how the religious leaders tried to trick Jesus by asking if it’s right to pay taxes to the emporer. Jesus tells them to look at the face on the coin they are holding. Who’s face is on the coin? The emporers! Jesus tells the leaders to give to the emporer what is his, but to remember- everything God made is stamped with the image of God. Give to God the things that are God’s.

We talked about what God has made- everything! We made some colorful rubbings of different coins and leaves. So many beautiful things God has created- including us! Thank you for the gift of your children- we are enjoying having them at Mystery Mountain so much.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask! We are always here! Thanks so much!

The Wedding Banquet

This past Sunday we talked about the story of the Wedding Banquet and how we are all invited to God’s Party. We learned that in the story, the people who were first invited by the King made excuses and were too busy to come. Instead, everyone else was invited to the party.

We threw a party of our own and danced to music and played with balloons and streamers. Our verse was “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28.

We are having so much fun with your amazing children! They are exploring stories each week, but we are learning so much from them too. If you or someone you know ever wants to hang with us on a Sunday morning, please feel free to!
